Dear Friends,
We would like to thank those of you that last month took part to the event "SANITY IN AN ERA OF RABID CAPITALISM?" at the Kingsley. A huge thanks goes to Denise McKenna and her "social Model of Mental Distress" presentation. Denise very kindly has shared her copy of the presentation for those that were unable to participate, and those, like myself, that could not hear properly (email us if you wish to have a copy in Word or PDF format).
We did not have the trade unionist contribution, but we had a brilliant time with a rich open mike with poetry and more music from the Mudlarks. Thank you again for your participation. Photos of the event can be found here
Please, note that there is a new peer support group called Cool To Believe for Tower Hamlets residents suffering of Paranoia and distressing beliefs. These will meet at BowHaven Community Hall, 1 William Place, Roman Road, London E3 5ED, every Wednesday 5.00-6.30 PM. First meeting will be tomorrow, the 12th March 2014.
Another important reminder from Myra Garrett is for the Friends of St. Clements AGM set to happen on the 7th April 4.30pm at Mile End Mental Health Unit, Small Post graduate Meeting Room, Mile End Hospital, Bancroft Road, E1
At the AGM of the Friends of St. Clements there will be a proposal to dissolve the Charity and dispose of its assets (just over £6000). This decision has been made due to the lack of interest from Mile End staff in collaborative work with the Friends and the steadily declining attendance at Friends monthly meetings. The AGM is open to any person with an interest in the Friend's aim of improving the quality of life of in-patients. No need to book, just turn up specially if have a proposal for new direction of the group that has been active for the past 30 years.
As part of the BDA's Sign Language Week 2014 "Strengthening Our Rights", there will be a lobby on the facilities for deaf people in the public services - Monday 17th March from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. Held inside Westminster Hall (part of Houses of Parliament). Good opportunity for deaf people and supporters to meet their local MPs - raising important points and asking MPs to speak on their behalf in Parliament. Organised by the British Deaf Association working with Spit the Dummy, RAD, Signature, NRCPD, DEX This event is free: share and register via eventbrite
Please join us for the regular monthly gathering of Friends of East End Loonies next Monday the 17th of March, 6.30-8.30 pm at LARC, 62 Fieldgate Street, Whitechapel E1
